Downhill Skiing

Known as the “Mountain State”, West Virginia is the best destination for southeastern U.S. skiing.

Large amounts of natural snow and a later than average season end are supplemented by the quality snowmaking. There are four ski resorts in WV and a number in Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia that are great resources for WV visitors and residents.

Snowshoe is the largest and best known resort in WV and the southeast. Tucked out of the way in a large bowl in between Cheat and Back Allegheny Mountains, it has the most slopes, the highest vertical and the best mountain town.

Canaan Valley Resort and Timberline provide the focal point of the winter destination that is Canaan Valley. This high mountain valley also includes state parks, the states best cross-country ski destination and miles of trails.
