Gauley River (Upper)

Description:

The most well known whitewater run in the eastern U.S. This is a consistent class V river that gets really crowded during “Gauley Season” in the fall. The river is jam packed with both private and commercial boaters from September to October. Directions:

About 6 miles south of Summersville, turn onto SR 129. Go 2.6 miles to the put-in at the Dam (Google Directions below). To get to the take-out (see American WW for more take-out descriptions), continue on SR 129 for 5.9 miles and take a left onto Bakus Branch Rd (Panther Mt. Rd). Go 1.8 miles, intersect with cr 11/1 go right for .7 miles to a parking field.
