Bicycling

Country roads and a growing number of Rail Trails in WV and nearby states provide many cycling opportunities.

Whether you want casual Sunday pedals, long road rides or overnight tours, there is something for everyone.

For road cycling, check out Cycling Scenic WV.  This site provides detailed information on great rides that take you on West Virginia's back roads to tour small towns, forests and scenic pastoral areas.

West Virginia has thirty converted rails to trails that offer both local resources for casual rides and longer routes for serious cyclists. The North Bend Trail and the Greenbriar Trail are the jewels in this system that provide overnight cycling options.

Close proximity to the nationally prominent C&O Canal Trail and the Great Allegheny Passage allow for long distance trips without ever riding on a road. There is a great deal of effort going into connecting the northern trails in WV to this system, with the goal of interconnected cycling possible all throughout the region.

Best time to go:

April through November is the best time for cycling, with fall color rides providing the best experience of the year.
