The Cheat Canyon extends twenty miles from Albright, WV to Cheat Lake. Swimming spots can be found all along the canyon, but access to most of it would be done by boat while doing a whitewaterater run on the Cheat Canyon or driving down to Blue Hole/Jenkensburgh. There is access to the river in a few different ways from the Albright area. If you camp at Teter's Campground, you can walk down the river until you get to the first few rapids and pools. You can also hike on the Allegheny Trail that is a road for much of its twelve miles in the canyon and then scramble to the river through the rhododendrons.
The start of the Cheat Canyon is in northern WV, near Albright. Access to swimming can be from Teters Campground or at the trailhead to the Cheat Canyon WMA along CR 26/23 (Google Directions below).
