Canoeing:

Mount Storm Lake

Description:

Mount Storm Lake is 1200 acres and about 4 miles long.  It is fed by the Stony River that starts high on the Alleghany Front near Dolly Sods.  The lake is surrounded by a mixture of residential areas and more secluded backwater areas.  The lake has three arms, with the two southern arms being the most secluded and good canoeing destinations.  Although the lake is located above 3000 feet in elevation, the power station located here warms the water so that temperatures are always warm and good for swimming.

Directions:

Mount Storm Lake is located in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia north of Petersburg.  Google Map directions below are to the public boat launch on the northern part of the lake.
