Camping:

Shavers Fork/Stonecoal Dispersed Camping

Description:

Shavers Fork/Stonecoal Dispersed Camping includes sites along the Shavers Fork River on both the north and south of the US route 250 bridge.  The Shavers Fork River flows on the high plateau of Cheat Mountain.  This area has great trails, forest roads and logging roads for hiking and mountain biking.  Fishing and swimming in the creek is great when the water level is lower and whitewater boating is possible when the water is high. Gaudineer Knob, a stand of virgin forest is nearby and worth the visit.  Dispersed campsites in the Monongahela National Forest are first come first served, there is no fee,  and they do not have any facilities (no bathroom, water, etc).

Directions:

The Shavers Fork Area is located in central West Virginia, south of Elkins in the Monongahela National Forest.  Google Maps directions below are to the campsites along FR 209 (Shavers Fork Rd).  There are also sites along FR 233 south of Cheat Bridge as well as some sites at the end of FR 47 and 49.
