Whitewater:

Youghiogheny River (Middle)

Description:

This is a good beginner river. 9 miles total with the first 1/3 whitewater, the middle 1/3 flat water and the last 1/3 whitewater. This section runs much of the time in the summer, with recreational releases from the Yough Dam on the weekends. Class I-II. Boats can be rented in Ohiopyle and commercial trips are offered (see state park web site). State Park Map (pdf)

Directions:

There are two options for put it.  Either Ramcat put-in (Google link below) or at the public access site on the south side of the Rt. 281 bridge. The take out is at Ohiopyle – go right out of the parking lot on Ramcat rd. for 2.2 miles to Sugar Loaf Rd. Go right for 7.5 miles to Ohiopyle. Turn right and go two blocks. Turn right and go to the take out parking on the left.
