Gauley River (Curtin Bridge to Persinger Creek)


This is the section of the Gauley River that flows into Summersville Lake.  It is called the Crupperneck section or the "Top Gauley".  This is a good intermediate kayak run with boulder drop rapids.  At high water levels, this can approach class IV.  Class II-III(IV). 12.4 miles.  Find more details on the American Whitewater link below.  


The Gauley River is located in south central West Virginia, flowing out of the Monongahela National Forest and into Summersville Lake.  The put-in is located at the Rt. 20/55 Bridge (Google directions below) and the take out is at the DNR Persinger Cr.
