Description:
This is the section of the Gauley River that flows into Summersville Lake. It is called the Crupperneck section or the "Top Gauley". This is a good intermediate kayak run with boulder drop rapids. At high water levels, this can approach class IV. Class II-III(IV). 12.4 miles. Find more details on the American Whitewater link below.
Directions:
The Gauley River is located in south central West Virginia, flowing out of the Monongahela National Forest and into Summersville Lake. The put-in is located at the Rt. 20/55 Bridge (Google directions below) and the take out is at the DNR Persinger Cr. Fishing Access. There is an alternate access point at the mouth of Panther Creek.
