Whitewater:

North Branch of the Potomac (Barnum to Bloomington)

Description:

This run is good for intermediate open boaters and beginner kayakers. It includes mostly class II with one class III rapid. Releases from the Jennings Randolph Dam are done in the spring and potentially in the fall (Check the web site for the schedule). Map (pdf).

Directions:

Navigate to Bloomington, MD. The take-out is underneath the railroad bridge (take local roads through neighborhood to public take-out – changing “room” near the river). To get to the put-in (Google Directions Below), continue on sr 135 in Bloomington and go over the bridge to sr 46. Follow for 5.6 miles and go right on 46/2 to Barnum about 2 miles to the river. There is a large parking lot and facilities (bathroom, change house).
