Hiking:

Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge

Description:

Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge includes almost 17,000 acres of Canaan Valley.  It protects the central part of the valley that includes the bulk of the wetland areas and much of the four streams in the valley (Blackwater River, Little Blackwater, North Branch of the Blackwater and Glade Creek).  There are 19 trails that total more than 32 miles.  There are also gravel roads that total 11 miles.  There are three main parking areas to access trails in the refuge - The Beall Trails are accessed from a parking area at the end of Cortland Road.  Parking at the end of Camp 70 road accesses some of the best trails to see the valley's wetlands.  The A-Frame Road takes you to the eastern part of the valley and access to the top of Cabin Mountain.  Trail Map
